Dragon Bridge in Da Nang: Fire & Water Show Schedule

Da Nang has long been known as a young, dynamic city famous for its uniquely designed bridges. Among numerous modern structures, the Dragon Bridge stands out with its massive golden dragon curving across the Han River, becoming an unmissable stop on any journey exploring this coastal city. This transport structure is also considered a cultural symbol and a source of pride for the people of Da Nang.

Construction History of the Dragon Bridge

The idea to build a bridge symbolizing a Dragon was initiated in the late 1990s. During the design phase, several debates emerged, particularly concerning construction methods that would not affect the nearby Cham Sculpture Museum. Engineers had to revise the plans multiple times to preserve the heritage while expressing the city’s aspirations.

In July 2009, the project commenced with a total investment of nearly VND 1,500 billion and was officially completed on March 29, 2013—coinciding with the anniversary of Da Nang’s liberation. Since then, this structure has not only addressed traffic demands but has also become an architectural icon tied to the development of the young city on the Han River.

Unique Architecture of the Dragon Bridge

The bridge spans more than 666 meters in length and 37.5 meters in width, featuring six lanes for vehicles and two pedestrian pathways. The body of the bridge is sculpted to resemble a dragon flying toward the open sea.

The dragon head is about 10 meters tall, 15 meters long, and weighs nearly 40 tons. It was inspired by the Ly Dynasty dragon image, featuring heart-shaped eyes and a stylized lotus bud tail.

At nightfall, thousands of LED lights illuminate the entire bridge, transforming it into a striking highlight over the Han River.

Perfect Spot to Watch the DIFF Fireworks Festival

Each summer, the Danang International Fireworks Festival (DIFF) turns the city’s sky into a dazzling light show. Thanks to its central location, the Dragon Bridge is a favorite viewing spot for many visitors. You can stand right on the bridge to soak in the festive atmosphere or admire the fireworks from beneath, where reflections dance on the river surface.

Another option is to enjoy the fireworks from Novotel Danang Premier Han River at the Splash Pool, The Square Restaurant, or Gourmet Bar.
